Since the other truck left yesterday, we were on our own. I was lead, just to the state line of Nebraska, where the steerman dropped off to take a week off with his family in Arkansas. I dropped back and became steerman from that point on. Then I got the call.
Change of plans!
We not only need to get back to the shop yard by the end of the day tomorrow, but I then need to drive to Columbus WI so that I can help lead two trucks that will load tomorrow and leave Saturday morning. Woohoo! Let’s go!
We drove to the Iowa line, and stopped at the Welcome Center there. The truck parking was too small for us, so we had to park along the curb in the car parking area. You can see us way at the end of that area in this picture, which makes us look a lot shorter than we really are. This driver is driving a replacement truck, so does not have it set up for him to sleep in, so though I would have liked to stay in my van, I drove him to a restaurant where he bpught me supper, and then to a hotel where we both checked in for the night.

We left at sunrise, to get the most out of our day.
We made great time, and arrived back at the shop by 2 PM after 412 miles! I drove right into the wash bay, and washed my dirty van!
Then I went into the office to check my “desk” and finally picked up my new laptop, which arrived several weeks ago.
I waited an hour for another truck to arrive because he had two wire lifting poles that I will need on this next run. The two trucks will be over 17 feet tall, and the four of us in front will be lifting a lot of wires, and directing a lot of traffic!
I left at 3 PM, and arrived by 9 PM at the truck stop near the load site, and slept in my van because it will only be about 35 tonight. We meet at 7 AM tomorrow.
